Free speech seems to have become a battle cry in recent times. Free speech is “the right to express our opinions without censorship or shame”, according to the dictionary.

Whilst it is important, it also carries responsibility. That responsibility is to express ourselves in a respectful manner to those who may or may not agree. Simply shouting or screaming abuse is not free speech. When we’re angry, we may become louder. That doesn’t make our truth any more truthful. It just makes it difficult for others to hear us – or want to hear us.

If we took the time to discuss challenging situations and look for ways to improve – not fix! – things, we might find ways to bridge the separation in our world.

Any ideas?
